A wonderful hedging shrub with attractive white flowers in spring. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: moist but well-drained soil Rate of growth: average to fast Flowering period: March Hardiness: fully hardy Known for their beautiful cloudy plumes of snow-white flowers in early spring, blackthorns characterise the spring landscape. Later in the year, rich, inky-black fruits appear along with the sloe pickers, gathering harvests for the delicious, syrupy tincture — sloe gin! Our bare root hedging range is a very low cost way of planting a hedge and are only available to buy and plant when dormant (November- early April). This hedging pack, with known seed provenance, is grown in rich Herefordshire soil to give them the best possible start in life and will be raring to go by the time they reach you. Our plants are 1 year old (1+0) which means they have been grown for 1 year in the seed bed. The plants are lifted and graded at between 40-60cm tall – a good size to plant hedges to encourage successful establishment.
