A compact, purple-leaved plum with pendant clusters of double rose-pink flowers. Position: full sun or partial shade Soil: moist, well-drained fertile soil Rate of growth: average Flowering period: April Hardiness: fully hardy In spring, small, pendent clusters of rose pink, double flowers appear amongst the newly emerging foliage. This foliage is initially bronze, but quickly turns to a deep reddish-purple, making a delicious contrast to the flowers. A great tree for smaller gardens, it has a rounded habit with slightly spreading branches and the leaves will colour up nicely in autumn. In winter, after all the leaves have fallen, the peeling copper-red bark will provide further interest. Garden care: When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake firmly. Prune in summer to reduce the risk of silver leaf and bacterial canker.
