Their white flesh has a rich and delicious flavour, and it comes away easily from the stone. The deep pink flowers that precede the fruits put on a great display in spring and make this a fine ornamental as well as productive plant. Discovered at the Rivers Orchard in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire in 1906 – and still in demand today. Garden care: Plant as soon as conditions allow in soil that is not waterlogged or frozen. When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole and stake and support firmly. Prune in summer to reduce the risk of silver leaf and bacterial canker.
