This is a very popular – and deservedly so – red, mid-season cherry, which has firm flesh and a sweet flavour. The colour is what you think of when someone says ‘cherry red’, indicative of the species and very bright. Best eaten straight from the tree, this cherry can nevertheless be used in cooking and in making liqueurs, if you are gifted with a bumper crop, which is likely as ‘Van’ is resistant to cracking.
