Spartan is an easy-to-grow apple tree variety with deep crimson coloured fruits that are sweet, crisp and juicy – the perfect combination of taste and texture. Its small to medium sized fruits are a favourite choice for children. The apples have a crunchy, white flesh of great texture that become slightly softer when mature but do not loose their juiciness. They taste best when eaten raw, or when pressed into a refreshing juice. The fruits have good keeping qualities and store well in cool, dry conditions, even until January. ‘Spartan’ has been awarded the Award of Garden Merit given by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), which helps gardeners make informed choices about plants.
